Giles gets the nod over Monty. I don’t know quite how to feel about that. I know that Giles is a better bat but Monty was magnificent in the summer. You’ve got to feel for the lad…

Yup… wrong choice entirely. I understand why England have gone with Giles but this was the pitch for Monty to make a huge impact…
I hope his confidence is not too damaged so that when England are brave enough to make the difficult choice, he will come out and prove them right.
End of day 1 with the score as it is will no doubt bring lots of doom & gloom but there’s an awful long way to go yet.

Hi Bully,
The build up in the press made it sound like Monty was axed from about Tuesday onwards but I was still surprised when they announced it. Like you, I hope that his confidence isn’t too damaged as he is certainly a guy who needs to feel like he’s part of the team.
