Barmy Army v Fanatics

Greg Champion and Dave Brooks are a couple of Australian songwriters who have been commissioned by Cricket Australia to write some songs for the Aussie fans to chant in an attempt to combat the Barmy Army. ‘Champs’ and ‘Brooksy’ are just two in a long line of famous Australian songwriters along with…ermm…well lots of others.
The lyrics of the song, however, have meant that Cricket Australia are now reconsidering whether or not they should promote the song after all.
Ashley Giles will be fit for the Ashes
According to the BBC website, Ashley Giles will be fit for the Ashes. It quotes the England team’s spin bowling coach David Parsons as saying “[Ashley] will be fighting fit and raring to go by the time England touch down in Australia“.

This is good news. A fully fit King of Spain bowling in tandem with Monty Panesar at Adelaide and Sydney is something to look forward to. I think it’s fair to say that neither Giles or Monty are going to win any Test matches single handed but they’re both good spinners of the ball who can tie the Aussie batsmen down and build the pressure.
I don’t know if I can wait another 66 days until it starts!

The noble game of cricket
The smell of freshly cut grass. The sound of leather on willow. Cucumber sandwiches and cups of tea. A genteel game played by gentlemen. The beautiful game that is cricket.
Someone ought to have told that to former Zimbabwean Test player Mark Vermeulen who has been banned for 10 years for hurling a ball at spectators in a Lancashire League match. Footage of the incident can be seen on the BBC Sport website whilst a report on the original incident can be found on the Cricinfo site.
Shane Warne pisses off Ricky Ponting

Looks like the Pie Eater has annoyed Biffo the Bear with his latest comments.
According to various sources including Cricinfo, Ricky Ponting is wanting to talk to Shane Warne following the recent press conference where Warne questioned how effective John Buchanan was as Australia’s coach.
Forget all that. How did he get that black eye? I know the official line is that he got it batting for Hampshire in a Pro40 match but did anyone actually see it?
I reckon he got a dig from the husband of some old Doris he was giving a portion to.
